How Does a Woman of God Manage Her Time and Money?

A few years ago, my husband hired a man to paint our dining room. As my husband explained why he wasn’t able to perform the paint job himself, the painter made a statement that left a great impression on me. He said, “Time and money are the two things you can’t have at the same time. You either have one or the other, but you never have both at the same moment.” Even though I smiled politely and walked away, I pondered that statement and began to analyze its validity. As extraordinary career women, what if we can have time and money at the same time?

So, how does a woman of God manage her time? Does she spend most of her time thinking about “what if” or “what is”? Or, is she one who complains about not having enough time to do what matters most? “What if I fail? What if I can’t pay the rent? What will they think of me?” The questions can go on and on.

Worrying about the future and other people’s opinion of us creates a mental dilemma that only ends up working against us. Years of experience have taught me that worry and fear only paralyze us; they are the work of Satan. We have no control over what is in store for us. The only thing we can do is to trust and know that God is with us for every single moment of our life’s journey.

Ten years ago, my husband and I made the decision to form a company and to invest time in a career and ministry that was on our heart. This decision has brought great fulfillment to my family. The journey hasn’t always been easy, yet we remain focused and persistent, and we trust God to constantly sustain us. Gone are the days when I worried about everything and stayed up all night stressing over matters. Instead, the realization that God is for and not against us has brought me much balance and peace of mind. To become successful women in our chosen careers, our focus should remain on God. We must conquer every fear of derailment from our purpose.

In addition to time, God has also directed us to be good stewards of the resources and finances with which He has entrusted us. The Bible teaches us that the love of money is the root of all evil; however, don’t we all at various times find ourselves anxious and stressed about financial matters? Remember this: when we are obedient and honor God by giving Him the 10 percent He’s asked for (even when it’s hard to give), He will always honor it and provide for every need (Malachi 3:10).

Here are a few things that the Word of God says about how we, as women, should use our time and money:

• Use your time at work to grab every opportunity to be a blessing and reflect God’s glory (See Colossians 4:5; Matthew 25:14-30).
• Be ethical, strong, and courageous (See Ecclesiastes 9:10).
• Do not entertain idleness in the workplace. This can lead to a variety of problems (See I Timothy 5:13;
• Ecclesiastes 10:18).
• Work with the resources you have and “shut the door on the enemy” to remain focused and avoid outside distractions (See II Kings 4:16).
• Pay your debts and obligations (See Luke 2:1-3; 2 Kings 4:7; Romans 13:8; Ecclesiastes 5:5).
• Be honest in your business dealings (Proverbs 13:11, Proverbs 28:20).

To become extraordinary career women of God, we must choose to spend our time wisely and continually glorify God with our resources. Remain steadfast and strong in Him who is able to bless you abundantly and provide for all your needs through Christ Jesus.
