No Matter What the Season…Always Be Dressed for War

By Judy Nelson

Attention, Princess Warriors! Whether we’re fighting for a parking spot in the holiday shopping rush or hoping the snow will stop so that shoveling won’t take as long, the devil likes to try to sneak in and attack us at any opportunity we give him. If our prayer life is faltering, a perfectly good day can go downhill in a hurry when we don’t recognize the battle for what it is and start out each day with prayer.

In Ephesians 6:11-12, the apostle Paul encourages us to: “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand up against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (KJV).

I pray this way daily, and I encourage you to do the same:

Father, I put on the Belt of Truth. Your Word is truth. You said we will know the truth and therefore be made free; I am free – free from the traps the enemy would set for me (Ephesians 6:14, John 8:32).

I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness knowing that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I guard my heart with Your breastplate because out of my heart flows the very issues of life (Ephesians 6:14, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Proverbs 4:23).

I shod my feet with the Gospel of Peace. Peace is my foundation. I will bring peace wherever I go throughout the day. I am a peacemaker and a peace carrier. I thank You for the peace that passes all understanding (Ephesians 6:15, Philippians 4:7).

I lift up the Shield of Faith which covers me from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. I thank You for the measure of faith that You gave me. I thank You that my faith is strong and growing through hearing Your Word. By that faith, every fiery dart is quenched (Ephesians 6:16, Romans 10:17).

I take on the Helmet of Salvation. The blood of Jesus covers my thoughts. I declare my thoughts are God’s thoughts because I have the mind of Christ (Ephesians 6:17, 1 Corinthians 2:16).

I wield the Sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word. Father, I take Your Word and speak it as Jesus did when He was tempted. Your Word will accomplish all you send it to do. I cut off the words of the enemy against me and proclaim the promises of God over me. I am the head and not the tail, I am above and not beneath, no weapon formed against me shall prosper, I am the healed of the Lord, and I will live long upon the earth and declare the works of the Lord (Ephesians 6:17, Matthew 4, Isaiah 55:11, Deuteronomy 28:13, Isaiah 54:17, Psalms 118:17).

I pray in the Spirit, knowing that I am building up myself on my most holy faith. I will pray in the Spirit when my words are not enough. As I pray in this regard, I will find that I have strength for my day (Ephesians 6:18, Jude 1:20).

If your day begins with prayer and putting on the armor of God, the enemy will not overcome you! All day long, you will be aware of all his sneaky attempts to trip you up and cause you to fall. Do as Paul said – put on the whole armor of God, and stand against the attack. The Word is like a sword, which will cut off the attack before it gets near to you. Always be dressed for war!
