The Beauty of Prayer

The beauty of prayer is that it is God’s desire for us to come near to Him. It is that intimate call from our Abba Father to draw near to Him, to spend time with Him, to come to Him as His cherished daughter. The Amplified version of John 6:44 says: “No one is able to come to me unless the Father who sent me attracts and draws him and gives him the desire to come to me…” So we see that God Himself draws each of us unto Himself.

What happens once we are drawn to Him in prayer? He reveals Himself to us and in that, we see the beauty of prayer is that God expresses His love to us. Now, the true beauty lies in the unconditional nature of His love. It is not based upon what we have done, whether right or wrong. God loves us even when we are in sin. He loves us…PERIOD! “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:38-39 KJV).

When we pray, we feel His mercy and grace embrace us. God loves us so perfectly that sometimes we can’t even wrap our human minds around it. Receive His love by faith and know that you are His prized possession. He loves you completely and infinitely!

As we commune with God and grasp the vastness of His love for us, we begin to see the beauty of prayer is that it changes things. Prayer changes our very nature. We become new in Christ Jesus. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV).

Not only are we changed from our old nature, but we become cleansed by the confession of our sins. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 KJV). Another way in which we are cleansed is by the washing of the water of His Word. Can you imagine taking a shower without using soap? Of course not, so why would we attempt to live without the Word? It will cleanse our attitudes, our perspectives, and will give us the mind of Christ.

As we begin to receive His thoughts we can pray according to His Word. This kind of prayer will change things. Jesus says: “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 18:19 KJV).

What are the needs in your life? Are they financial, physical, spiritual, etc.? Whatever the need is, no matter how big or small, God wants to supply it. When we come into agreement with His Word, the power of prayer is revealed. We can truly draw near to Him, begin to realize the depth and breadth of his love for us, and go forth empowered knowing He can change our situations and our world. This is…the beauty of prayer.
