Even after the Canaanite woman was told she didn’t “qualify,” she continued to worship Jesus and put her unashamed desperation on display. “But He answered and said, ‘It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs’” (Matthew 15:26 NKJV). Now He has insulted her! Talk about adding insult to injury! But did that stop her? No! This woman was not taking no for an answer!
Her faith had pushed past every road block that was presented, and she answered, “‘Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master’s table.’ Then Jesus answered and said to her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire!’ And her daughter was healed from that very hour” (Matthew 15:27-28 NKJV).
We will all face a time of crisis in our lives when we pray, cry out to God, beg Him to answer us, and our prayers still go unanswered. Maybe a loved one dies, or in spite of all you are doing to make your marriage work, your spouse walks out the door. Or, no matter how much you pray for a wayward child, he seems to sink deeper into sin and run farther from God, leaving your heart broken. What will you do? Will you get mad at God? Will you quit, turn your back on Him, and walk away? Maybe you’ll stay in church, but you’ll grow bitter, unforgiving, and untrusting. Or, will you allow your faith to be pushed down and buried, never believing God for anything again, lest you get hurt and disappointed?
You could choose to follow the example of this great woman and say, “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!” (Psalms 103:1 NKJV). Make the choice – choose to worship and refuse to let go of your faith in God! Be strong; be bold. Remember, delay doesn’t mean denial. Stand on God’s Word, and believe!
Encourage Yourself in the Lord
Prayer written by Judy Nelson
Father, I worship You today, knowing that this is the day You have made. I thank You that no matter what comes against me, You, oh Lord, will not allow me to be tempted above what I can bear.
Thank you, Lord, that when the enemy comes against me, You raise up a standard against him. I take the authority You have given me in the Name of Jesus and by the power of His blood, and I cut off and sever and loose from me any assignment of the enemy to bring discouragement.
I speak your Word over myself and proclaim and declare that I am the head and not the tail! I am more than a conqueror! I have the mind of Christ! I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength! No weapon formed against me (physically, emotionally, financially, relationally, or spiritually) will prosper! I am who God says I am! I will do what His Word says I will do! Greater is Jesus in me than any devil in the world! I don’t fear what man can do to me for You, oh God, are with me. I will not quit; I will not hold back. I speak to myself and say, “You are a daughter of the King! It is His desire to bless you in all your ways. I do not receive the seeds of doubt or fear. I know I have the spirit of power, love, and soundness of mind. I thank
