Are you a morning person? Do you need a few cups of coffee before you start your day? The smell of coffee brewing is such an inviting smell to help encounter the day, and the words “coffee’s ready” are like music to the ears! I have always approached the day so much better when I have had at least two cups of good ’ole Java! I think a cup of coffee and daily devotions go very well together!
Since the beginning of the year, I have felt a “stirring” in my spirit – like something big is “brewing” in the lives of God’s women. He is planning something fresh for your life (like a fresh pot of coffee!). Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (NIV). God is a planner and He is planning good things for your life!
He truly desires to give you a plan, an idea, or a concept! He wants to “stir up” your mind and heart, either with a brand new idea, or advancing and adding to what you have known for awhile, or even possibly dusting off a dream you have put on a shelf. He wants to ignite His spirit of creativity inside of you! How exciting!
If I asked you, “Where are you going?” and you said, “I don’t know,” or if I asked you, “What do you want to do with your life?” and you answered, “I don’t know,” you would be lacking vision. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Without a vision, the people perish.”
If I worked at a gas station and you came in to get directions, yet when I asked you where you were going, you answered, “I don’t know,” then I couldn’t give you any directions! The ministry and the Word are to give you directions, but you have to hear from God to know where you are going.
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for” (KJV). If you aren’t hoping for anything, faith won’t be alive in you! Do you have a dream? A vision? It’s a good thing to dream and to have hope! Some Christians think that dreaming and hoping are immature and that all you need is faith, but how will you know that faith is real if you haven’t hoped for something? Hebrews 11:1 also says that faith is the evidence of things not seen! What are the things not seen? Your dreams and visions! Maybe it’s something that you want to do or accomplish –maybe it’s seeing your marriage restored or your body healed.
God has planted “dream seeds” inside of you! A dream is like a seed. It doesn’t look anything like what it will become, and the seed sprouts and blossoms at different times. The right time!
If you were sitting across from me at a table sharing a cup of coffee (vanilla latte or caramel macchiato) and I could listen to you talk about your dreams, what would you tell me? Habakkuk 2:2-3 says, “Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (NKJV)! I love that scripture!
When you see something, hope for something, and believe for something, then that “dream seed” can grow in faith, until one day it blossoms into a miracle! Your dream seed has to be:
- Based on the Word of God (Your hope/dream/vision cannot be contrary to the Word!)
- Watered with prayer
- Not for selfish gain (ask yourself, “why do I want to see this happen in my life?”)
Some of you may have some dreams that you have put on hold or even forgotten about. It might be time to dust those dreams off! Don’t let the mistakes or hurts of yesterday rob you! Live in the now – plan for the future!
Dreams can take on a different perspective than we sometimes plan. We get in our minds how we think something is going to be or how it’s going to look. Have you ever done a crossword puzzle? You have to think in a different perspective to often find the answer. I believe that God is telling us to “think different; see different!” The answer could be right in front of you, and you can’t see it. Ask the Lord to illuminate your mind and perspective to see as He would have you to see and perceive. I pray that He anoints your spiritual eyes to see things in a new and fresh-brewed way!
A God-desire – a dream seed from God – will never leave you! But, watch out for dream thieves! Sometimes people will make negative comments or judge your dream wrongly. Be careful with whom you share your dream! And don’t ever let negative circumstances rob your dream! Keep on keepin’ on!
4 Phases of a Dream:
- Dream Seed – It’s planted inside of you. It’s exciting, yet it can cause apprehension. You don’t know if you can do it, or whether or not you’re capable or ready yet.
- The Test – waiting…waiting…waiting. This is the time during which it’s almost forgotten. During this season you will discover your true motivation. This is also when character is developed! You may also realize that your dream may need to be redefined. Your dream will become purified in every aspect during this time.
- Helping Others Fulfill Their Dreams – When you are wondering about your dream, that’s when you should help others fulfill theirs! When you get tired of working and working and helping others, you could find yourself in your own “dream field”! I love the story about Ruth in the Bible. I call it the “Field of Dreams”!
- A Dream Comes True – Isn’t it funny how we look at people as being “overnight successes”? In reality these people have been working for years to accomplish their dream! Dreams take lots of work, perseverance, and patience! (Repeat that to yourself.)
Don’t give up on your dream! Hang on to it, fight the devil, and press toward the mark! Your dream is waiting just around the corner to come true!
I think I smell something brewing…
