Believe in You

There’s an old rhyme that says, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me!”  Well, if you have ever been made fun of you know that this saying is simply not true!  Words are very powerful; in fact, our Creator formed and spoke the world we live in by His words! I’m sure you can think of at least one thing someone said to you that still hurts whenever you think about it.  I wish I could tell you that will be the only time that ever happens to you, but I can’t. People may choose to use words to label you, but that doesn’t mean that those words are true.

The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:27 that God made us in His own likeness, and in verse 31 “God saw all that He had made, and it was very good…” (NIV). We know by this scripture that God liked what He made, and He made you! If you are doing your best to please God and know in your heart that everything you do points someone towards Jesus, that’s what counts. It doesn’t matter how much money your family does or doesn’t have, or if you are the most popular girl in your class.

You have two choices. One, you can believe what others say about you and carry that hurt around, allowing the enemy to win and steal your joy. Or two, you can choose to believe what God has said about you in His Word, and live free from the pain of hurtful words that keep you from doing all God has called you to do.

Let’s recap:

The bad news: Let’s just face the facts, there are always going to be certain people in your life who tell you that you are not good enough in one way or another.  It may be your looks, your clothes, your hobbies; the list goes on and on.

The good news: It’s up to you to believe the truth, not the lies! Remember that God’s words are so powerful, they can erase all the bad things people say and do to make you feel bad about yourself.

Let me pray for you: Father, I pray for every girl reading this article.  First, may she believe in You; and secondly, may she believe in the thoughts You think towards her, and the plans You have for her life.  You have called her to shine her light so bright wherever she goes, and to tell others about Your goodness and love. I ask you Lord to remove any labels that have been placed upon her, by her own mouth or others and let her see herself how You see her…amazing, beautiful and precious!  Lord, give her the courage to believe only good things about herself and to stand up for the truth in every situation. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
