Five Steps to Beautiful Skin

Skin care can seem complicated and overwhelming with so many products to choose from. It’s best to get advice from a professional to ensure you are using the right products for your skin type. Here are some simple, at-home tips to help you achieve your best skin.

  1. Cleanse

Before you wash your face, wash your hands. Then use a facial cleanser that complements your skin type. Wash your face and neck with cleanser in an upward motion for one minute. Be sure you are using lukewarm water. At night, wash your face twice over. It’s very important to double cleanse your skin in the evening to ensure you have removed makeup, sunscreen, dirt, grime and pollution. Properly cleansed skin is less likely to produce clogged pores and is less prone to breakouts and blemishes. It also allows serums and moisturizers to be more effective. Depending on your cleanser, you may need a separate makeup remover for your eyes. The skin around the eye area is very thin and delicate, so you must be very gentle. After double cleansing, gently pat the skin dry with a towel or washcloth. Do not rub.

  1. Tone

Next, apply the proper toner for your skin type to a cotton round. Start at the bottom of the chin and move upward. Toner gets rid of remaining dirt and oil. It also restores the skin to the correct pH.

  1. Extract

A masque is used to support and enhance your skin-care goals. There are many different masques depending on what your skin-care needs may be. Clay masques pull out the impurities and help unclog pores. They are best for oily or acne-prone skin. Hydrating and anti-aging masques will provide moisture and anti-aging benefits for dry and mature skin types. After selecting the proper masque, apply evenly to face and neck. Allow to penetrate for 10-30 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water, pat dry, and apply serum, moisturizer, or sunscreen.

  1. Prevent

Do you wonder if serum is necessary? Yes, it is! The purpose of serum is to solve problems. Serum is right for you if you have issues such as acne, dark spots, or wrinkles. Serum is also preventive, enabling you to stop the problem before it starts. Good serums penetrate deeper and concentrate on the problem areas. They contain healing antioxidants and vitamins which protect your skin from environmental factors. Serums are always applied before your moisturizer and are thinner so they can be deeply absorbed by the skin. Allow the serum to sit and soak into your skin for 1-2 minutes before applying the moisturizer that complements your serum.

  1. Moisturize and Protect

Proper hydration is key to healthy skin and a youthful glow. Using a good moisturizer will help with premature aging and cell damage, and will give your skin the proper nutrients, while you sleep and throughout your day to hydrate and heal your skin. Even oily skin types need hydration. Moisturizers range from oils to cremes. You will want to select a moisturizer that works well with your serum. Sunscreen falls under this category as well. Some sunscreens can be used as a moisturizer alone or applied over your moisturizer. Never leave the house without protecting your face and neck from the sun.

Sleep and water consumption also play a role in achieving beautiful skin. Be sure you are getting at least eight hours of sleep nightly and drinking the proper amount of water daily.
