“For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ” (I Corinthians 3:9-11 NIV).
Last week we learned that we must be expert builders –who build our houses upon the Rock. We learned that we must have a foundation of godly principles, create an architectural plan, and embrace teamwork and unity. This week we’ll learn about three additional keys to building ourselves up so that we can be all we are meant to be as princesses in God’s Kingdom.
- Follow the Rules
When building a house, we abide by the building codes and laws of the governing city or county. Each great house is built on discipline and regulations; in the same way, every kingdom has a ruler and subjects. God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses for God’s people to abide by. In addition to this, there are biblical laws and statutes that bring us long life and prosperity. Following these laws, commandments, and statutes allows us to enjoy great stability in life. Psalms 103:19 says, “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” (NIV). As princesses, we should set a standard by following the King’s decrees.
- Protect Our Investments
We should safeguard ourselves so that we are not overtaken by the thief. In John 10:10, we are reminded that the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. No one builds a beautiful house, furnishes it nicely, and leaves the door and windows open for the thief to come in and steal. Jesus said that He has come so that we may have life more abundantly. We must protect ourselves by guarding our eyes and ears, the gateway to our heart. With our eyes, we form perceptions about situations. Through our ears, we not only hear, but form opinions. These are the representation of the windows and doors to our building. It is critical for us to safeguard these in order to live an abundant life full of God’s promises.
- Presentation to the Rightful Owner
Our goal should be to present an excellent and unique building to the homeowner. The house that we build is for the glory of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Hebrews 3:4 says, “For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything” (NIV). We need to remember that our citizenship is in heaven and not of this earth. In Hebrews 3:6, it also says, “But Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end” (NKJV).
